Individual Counseling
Individual therapy (sometimes called “psychotherapy” or “counseling”) is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained therapist in a safe, caring, and confidential environment.
A necessary and basic feature of counseling and therapy is the collaborative relationship between the therapist and client (otherwise known as therapeutic alliance). The goal of individual counseling is to explore feelings, beliefs, or behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, set personal goals, and work toward desired change. A client and therapist will collaborate together and may work together for as few as 3 or 4 sessions or a longer term as needed, depending on the client’s unique needs and personal goals for therapy.
